“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You’re doing things you’ve never done before, and more importantly, you’re Doing Something. So that’s my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody’s ever made before. Don’t freeze, don’t stop, don’t worry that it isn’t good enough, or it isn’t perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life. Whatever it is you’re scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.” – Neil Gaiman

For all those who are new to my blog (and there are so many of you so welcome, welcome!) here’s a little history behind my ChooseDay posts…

Many, many Tuesday’s ago I was having a chat with a friend when I moaned about the fact that it was Tuesday. I hated Tuesday’s with a passion. It was undoubtedly the worst day of the week I explained to my friend. Monday’s fly by as there is always so much to do after the weekend. Wednesday’s are half way through the week and Thursday, well it was downhill to the weekend heehaa! You could hear the smile in my voice. But Tuesday’s I said, my voice suddenly changing, dripping with sadness and dullness, sit there offering absolutely nothing, lopsided and off-centre it just hangs around like a nasty smell that won’t go away.

Every Tuesday dragged and I would literally see each passing second of the day as if it was taunting me with how slow it was going….

My friend patiently listened and then responded with “but it’s Tuesday!” in this jolly voice that no doubt at the time made me want to punch her in face. How could she be so jolly on a dreary, dull Tuesday? My lifeless voice replied, I know that’s the problem. She went on to say that I wasn’t getting what she was saying and again repeated it. In my downtrodden Tuesday state I wasn’t quite catching on what she was saying. Then she drew it out for me “Lara, it’s CHOOOOOSE DAY” she continued explaining that it’s a day you get to choose whatever you want. I loved it the minute she said it (and I finally got what she was saying) and since that moment my Tuesday’s have never been the same again. Now I love Tuesday’s! I use it as my blank canvas to create anything I want for the day ahead and instead of it dragging and turning into a day of absolute dread, it has become a day of dreaming, creating and having fun.  Pretty much what I do everyday anyway but now with added spices on a day that before offered nothing but horror for me.

So join me every ChooseDay as I post something inspiring. Much like my Facebook status updates, I call them my post-it notes ~ little reminders that we have this one chance at life and at the end of the day it’s a simple choice as to how we are going to live out the rest of our days.

Go out there.

Eat life whole.

Get dirty.

Colour over the lines.

Laugh.

Play.

Dream.

Make positive choices.

And most of all, have fun!

Happy ChooseDay everyone, may your day be full of magic!
