I have done the unthinkable and as people begin to count down how many more hours to go before The Red Hot Chili Peppers go live at the Cape Town Stadium tonight, I sold both my tickets.
I’ve been thinking about it for a while and sold my one ticket the other day. The other ticket seemed to hang around, a few people interested over the last week but no one was committing. I wasn’t trying to make a profit off the tickets, just selling them for exactly the same price I paid for them.
I’ve always been a fan and hearing the RHCP’s brings back the fondest memories of playing their music full blast in various houses in London and drinking red wine with dear friends as we went crazy to their tunes blasting out the speakers. I’m fully aware I will miss the opportunity to drool as Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of RHCP, moves across the stage doing what he does best and part of me thinks I’m crazy giving up my tickets and with a slight tinge of green running through my veins as now I have said goodbye to both tickets. But I will remember this moment….
For you see I have a dream.
A dream that is so much bigger than seeing the RHCP’s live in concert.
My intention was set a while back and now slowly over time I start making little sacrifices for a dream that is so much bigger than I could ever imagine. The money from the sale of my concert tickets goes straight into my savings account for Aconcagua, the next mountain on my list to summit.
Small steps of small savings but each one brings me that much closer to my biggest dream yet. I still don’t know how I will get there but I won’t bog myself down with the details. With unwavering faith, I believe I will climb this mountain in the near future and if there is something to help me get that much closer to my dream, I will do it and I know I won’t look back.
Life is like that, you have to make choices about what you want and what you don’t want. You have to think about what is really, truly important to you and sometimes you have to make sacrifices to realise your dreams because at the end of the day no one else is going to do it for you.
Yes, so as everyone gets Red Hot for tonight’s Red Hot Chili Peppers concert I hand over my 2nd ticket and I will watch as they walk away with that last ticket in hand. But I will stand there smiling, as I’m smiling now, and one day soon when I am standing on the top of Aconcagua I am going to remember this moment and with as much air and energy as I can muster, I will punch the air and shout out “Eat that Chili Peppers” and in that moment I will know without a doubt in my mind, it was all worthwhile!!
A strangely powerful moment selling that last ticket ~ almost as if another it’s another YES in securing my dream ~ knowing there is something bigger out there for me. My bucket list softly calls…. I smile silently as I envision carrying a red (hot) chili pepper up the slopes to the summit with me one day soon. My mascot and my reminder of how sometimes making small sacrifices help dreams come true.
Many South Africans might dream of Californication tonight.
Tonight I will dream of a snow-covered mountain top and dreams coming true.
Red Hot Chili Peppers said it best… “I like pleasure spiked with pain, and music is my aeroplane.” Yes, thank you RHCP, missing your music tonight puts me one step closing to flying to Argentina and setting foot on the slopes of Aconcagua!!
Don’t let your dreams just be dreams.
Relentlessly pursue them.
Never stop dreaming.
Never stop believing.
Ah yes, Happy ChooseDay everyone!!
