With Charlie visiting from the UK, my weekend was packed with goodness and filled to the brim with everything Cape Town. After a bit of a delayed arrival on Saturday morning, we headed out in the late afternoon for a lovely drive around the coast, stopping at various spots, taking plenty of photos, soaking up the glorious Cape Town sunshine and catching up on the last 10 years!
The penguins on the beach were the cutest. It was by now late afternoon and the sun was low in the sky and the penguins were just standing around on the rocks and on the beach as if taking in the last rays of the day’s sun. We walked right up to them, talking to them (as you do) and naturally taking loads of of photos. Two penguins caught my eye, it was as if they were courting and it was the cutest thing to watch… I couldn’t get enough of them!

I loved watching these two penguins. It was like the boy was courting the girl. He circled her a number of times, round and round, walking with such purpose…

Then he stopped next to her, as if a little shy and almost as if he wanted to hold her hand. Then he walked around her one more time…

And then he seemed to end it with a kiss. It was the cutest thing ~ awh love is so beautiful evening in the animal world!
Did you know that when a penguin finds its mate, they stay together forever?!! Hhhmm, now I’m wondering if someone will be my penguin?!
On Sunday, as 55 000 people headed out to ride 109km’s on their bicycle around the peninsula in the Argus Cycle Tour, myself and two friends headed out to the mountain for some hiking instead. The wind was howling and so our planned route changed as the mountain was once again shrouded in cloud and the higher we got up the mountain the gustier the wind became, knocking us around on our feet. So instead of heading all the way to the top we stuck to the contour paths along the front of the mountain and when that was done we headed to the Pipe Track and walked along the trail under the Twelve Apostles. With gorgeous sunshine, strong wind and great company that had us laughing from start to finish, we spent a glorious 6 hours on the mountain side taking in the views and enjoying some of the best bits of Cape Town.

Up Platteklip or along the contour path. The way I was looking I think I should have still been in bed never mind on a mountain!
An amazing weekend spent outdoors in the beautiful city that I live.
I would say if only it wasn’t Monday today… but tonight I get to tick off another bucket list item. I’d say that’s a pretty great way to start the week!
