The Great Escape

My blog has been most neglected lately due to fact that I am trying hard to act like a responsible adult. Yup, it’s that time of year again when I begin preparing for exams. This year it’s exciting exams (not really) but let’s pretend. In just over a month’s time I am going to be writing my final honours degree exams and within one week it will all be over. Yes, my university loves cramming in all my exams for my whole entire degree in the space of 8 days with no concern for those students who are actually full-time employees as well. So everything fun (well mostly anyway) is getting totally pushed aside. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to hike and can mostly be found sitting in the four walls of my study. So bear with me over the next month and half as I pretend to cram like never before.

Two weekends back, for me what seems like a lifetime ago, I was lucky enough to escape the four walls of my study and head out for an early morning beach walk. Even though Cape Town is working her way through the last bits of winter, we have been surprised with the most stunning weather lately (which is completely and utterly unacceptable as it’s not conducive to studying!)

For a couple of hours on my escape, I got to feel the sand between my toes, I got to breathe in the fresh ocean air and felt the warm sun on my skin, while enjoying delightful company other than my text books.

Grateful for moments of escape like these.

For the great company I had.

And to connect with nature (and another human), even if just for a short while.

The Magic of Your Way

“Never touch anything with half of your heart. Be present, endlessly loving and compassionate towards others. Confront any challenging situation first with a deep breath. Wander. Remember that your own happiness and comfort comes above all things. Before reacting, try understanding. Eat breakfast every morning. Find the faces in the flowers. Remember what is important to you. Treat your body kindly. Be honest. Get to know yourself. Take things at your own pace. Do not feel embarrassed to feel, laugh, cry, sing or love. Remember that what is right for someone else may not be what is right for you (and that’s okay). Never be ashamed or afraid to ask for help. Do what you love. Remember that you always have a choice. Find joy in what life really is. That is living.”
