Method Behind My Madness!

I was not a blogger, the calling to blog just never really came to me. However, I had a dream and to enable me to spread the word about what I was doing and why I was doing it, coupled with allowing fellow beings to share my amazing journey with me, I decided to take the plunge and so on Sunday, 11th March 2012, Walking4Air was born.

The dream went back many years, the course was clear and the vision was set and on the 6th July 2012 I left the comforts of my home and headed out to Tanzania where I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in memory of the bestest best friend anyone could ever have. This blog started to chronicle my journey of summiting this incredible mountain.  With each step I took on that mountain it became harder for me to breath as I gained altitude, but it was a reminder to me that this is a mere drop in the ocean compared to what people living with CF have to endure in their lifetime.

My inspiration was Emma Walker and I hiked in honour of this brave young amazing women who fought the effects of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) with such determination and bravery. Currently, there is NO cure.  I tied my climb up the mountain with raising funds for those living with Cystic Fibrosis and by the end of my journey, an amazing small army of soldiers had rallied around and helped me raise an incredible R20 191.00 for those living with CF.

Emma and I met one morning in primary school and we became inseparable from that moment on.  She was a daughter, a sister and she was my best friend.  She showed me how to laugh but more importantly she showed me how to live. Sadly, Emma passed away on the 18th May 1998, at the young age of 22.

Even thought my journey to summit Kilimanjaro is now over, my Bucket List is far from complete and I have many more adventures to discover and fulfill.  I invite you to follow my journey as I explore life, learn new teachings and discover as much as I can while I’m still walking this beautiful earth.

~ This Blog Is In Memory of Emma Walker and I will always be Walking4Air ~

What an amazing thing to do! It sounds as though Emma was lucky to have a friend like you too!

Such a touching and inspiring blog! thank you! Look forward to reading more of your beautiful adventures, and may even be encouraged to commence with the cllimbing of some of my own mountains and fulfil some dreams along the way, whilst learning more and more about CF, and in the process adding value and hope to the life of a little 11 year old CF princess, who is close to my heart :) xx

Hi Sandi, thanks for the lovely message! For some reason I am only seeing your message now. I must say I have been very slack on my blog over the last year (life has been exceptionally busy and it’s been a very challenging 2016 so far) but I’m hoping to start writing again soon and finish my Aconcagua Adventure story! Thank you for reading my blog and I’m thrilled to hear that it shares hope and inspiration to you and the precious 11 year old princess in your life. :)
